Flora Mobile Device

The flora project asked the question: how do you create a new cellular device in a saturated consumer market? This project started with the concept of combining technology with nature. Next generation consumer electronics will need to be more than their features, they will need to be versatile, beautiful, and adaptable.

I started by mapping existing cellular devices by price and functionality on a four quadrant graph, and completed a visual feature analysis of current consumer electronics. The initial research revealed an opportunity for a less expensive cellular device that could be personalized with dynamic media content and styled using organic references.

Moving forward, I created initial product sketches combining my original concept idea with my research. This lead to the development of a small cellular device that could be worn by the user as a fashion accessory and personalized by changing the device’s appearance and media content. The final product establishes a new consumer segment by incorporating targeted features, a unique design, and establishing a new price point that matches consumer expectation and demand.
